Özil to launch FIFA 2019 eSports team

After his resignation from the German national team, Mesut Özil (29), has announced that he will set up his own FIFA team with top stars from all continents.

Özil’s entry to FIFA will give the world’s popular football simulation a turbo boost. So far, FIFA has been dwarfing the eSports world behind League of Legends (LoL), Dota2 or Counterstrike (CS: GO). While the big game titles with millions in prize money and lavish player salaries dominate the scene, gaming maker Electronic Arts (EA) pours comparably modest, if already six-figure sums.

Not only is the Arsenal star the first major professional footballer to get involved in virtual football, it’s also the economic possibilities that inspire the imagination. The Arsenal midfielder is set to launch a team to take on the world in the new game, which comes out in September.
