Epic Games: the Fortnite microtransactions are a success

Epic Games has with Fortnite Battle Royale the goose that lays the golden eggs. The title, which has reached more than 2 million euros a day in iOS, has become an unprecedented success for the company of Tim Sweeney, who believes that the microtransactions of his title are a blessing and a sustainable financing system.

Fortnite Battle Royale is a free game, but the success of its millionaire income is due to micropayments and small season passes, which add aesthetic and special content without altering the playable order and the balance of the title. In other words: it does not make it easier for the one who pays or harder for the one who does not. Sweeney, as stated to Venturebeat, believes that the key is here. “To date, I believe that the success of Fortnite has allowed us to see that we have used the best type of financing for a company: microtransactions from happy users and consumers,” explained Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games.

“We have invested a good part of the game, using the benefits of the title to improve it, we have built a better team, we have added new features and we have founded a number of long-term initiatives over the next few years,” he confirms. “We’ve been investing to make Fortnite an eSport, we have competitions, events and opportunities for players to win real money with the game,” he says.

Fortnite Battle Royale is a free multiplayer title belonging to the battle royale genre. It is part of the game Fortnite cooperative, which allows us to build structures with materials obtained on the map. It is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, as well as on iOS and soon on Android.
