Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, announced Monday night that it will inject $100 million into the endowments of its various tournaments during its first competitive season.

Epic Games, developer of the phenomenon  Fortnite, had been bouncing around for weeks about moving their game to the competitive stage. Esports? Not esports?

On Tuesday night, Epic Games had taken a big step towards electronic sport by announcing a statement that it will inject – without further details – $100 million in the first competitive season of Fortnite (2018-2019).

In the 2018 – 2019 season, Epic Games will provide $100,000,000 to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions. “We will strongly support the competitive game, but our approach will be different: we want to include the most people, focusing on the pleasure as a player and spectator of the game”, announced Epic Games.

If this is the first step towards esports for Fortnite, the sum announced crushes all the other titles already involved in the discipline. In comparison, Dota 2, largely thanks to The International, offers about $50 million in endowments for the current season.
