This week marks the start of Epic Games’ newly announced Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), a new competitive series starting on August 17. The FNCS will include competitive payments totaling more than USD 10 million across all regions and competitions.

A three-round trios event will be held each weekend for five weeks beginning this week, with the top teams from each region each week advancing to the Season X finals. Qualifying will also include top performers on the series leaderboard with series points awarded for each team’s final placement during the FNCS on a weekly basis. Epic Games will reveal the official rules for the Cash Cups sometime this week.

The Season X champion will be determined during the season finals, which will include each region and will be held online from September 20-22.

Last month, more than 2 million people tuned in to watch 16-year-old Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf win the USD 3 million grand prize in the Fortnite World Cup in New York, the largest cash prize for a single player in an event in esports history. More than 100 players competed in the tournament, which offered USD 30 million in total prize money.
