The Maltese Government has launched a new vision for video game development and esports, aiming at seeing about 3,000 full-time jobs directly linked to gaming within a decade.  Electronic sports and video game development would contribute about EUR 120 million to the country’s economic value added in a decade’s time.

A memorandum of understanding was signed a few days ago between Electronic Sports League (ESL) and the Government of Malta through the GamingMalta Foundation. This will serve as a mechanism to develop a multi-year programme to help the development of the local grassroot esports ecosystem, the organisation of local and international events, as well as the sharing of expertise in the sector. The vision hopes to position Malta as a hub for video game development and esports in the Mediterranean and Europe and is looking to attract international esports tournaments to be hosted in the country.

ESL have a core mission to create esports ecosystems and are very excited about developing the Maltese Esports together with the Maltese Government.
