The new European Franchise teams in the LOL league

The League of Legends European Championship, or “LEC”, will be the new premier League of Legends competition in Europe. Starting with the 2019 Spring Split, the European Championship Series (EU LCS) will be rebranded to the new league & logo identity.

The major difference between the new LEC and the EU LCS is that the LEC will operate with a franchise format where each team has inked a long term partnership with developer Riot Games for a guaranteed spot in the LEC. This is opposed to the relegation system that the EU LCS had formerly utilized where under performing EU LCS teams could possibly lose their league spots to a challenger’s team.

The ten teams that have secured a franchise spot in the new European league, LEC, for the 2019 season, are:

  • SCHALKE 04,
  • G2 ESPORTS,
  • MISFITS GAMING,
  • ORIGEN,
  • EXCEL ESPORTS,
  • ROGUE,
  • SK GAMING,
  • SPLYCE,
  • TEAM VITALITY and
  • FNATIC.

The classic Origen team stands out the most. Behind the team stands RFRSH Entertainment and Astralis who have long been reputed to be interested in a place in the league.

With a set of new and old faces and a major appearance transformation, the League of Legends European Championship or LEC will be looking to continue and surpass the success that its predecessor in the EU LCS achieved and push Europe to the top of the world when it comes to professional League of Legends.
